Coastal and River Engineering and Management

Institution:

The complexity of river and coastal engineering projects calls for an integrated approach. All aspects must be covered; from construction engineering and design, to the socio-economic impact. Royal HaskoningDHV is involved in river engineering projects and studies for river training works, river bank protection, river widening and deepening, dredging projects for navigation purposes, ship locks, river regulation works, hydro power, river waterfront development and rehabilitation of natural floodplains and river habitats.

Our coastal engineering projects and studies include structural and non-structural solutions (Nature Driven Design), coastal protection, offshore land reclamation, beach nourishment by dredging, closure of estuaries or lagoons, breakwaters, ports, access channels and coastal waterfront development.

Royal HaskoningDHV has a long and recognised track record in the implementation of flood alleviation schemes in coastal and river environments. In 2010 we won the silver Green Apple award Scotland in the category Building & Construction for the Moray Flood Alleviation Scheme.

We provide advice for the complete range of coastal management projects: from shoreline and coastal zone management plans, site selection and feasibility studies, to the structural design and implementation of large-scale complex works. Our coastal management solutions are developed using the following approach:
Thorough assessment of the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of a range of options

Selection of the most appropriate solution, taking into account the needs and wishes of communities

Design development and application for consents, licences and approvals

Detailed design and preparation of contract documents
