The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is a key provider of innovative and useful research for the maritime, oil and gas and marine renewables industries across the world.Our vision is to uphold our position as a world-leading centre of marine technology, by developing a sustainable research environment which supports continuous improvement and growth.

The department carries out research which is supporting industry in a useful and innovative way. It has state-of-the-art facilities, which includes the largest towing/wave tank of any UK academic institution.

The staff are internationally recognised for their expertise.

The department team takes part in many different research projects and networks funded by the UK government, the EU and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Our researchers also participate in research bodies such as the EU Research and Development Co-ordination Group and the International Maritime Organisation.
