Protein Analysis

Institution:
Equipment Type: Protein Analysis Facility

Proteomics is the study of how proteins function and their structure. This is an essential part of biological research, in particular when examining the response of organisms to stress. By using proteomics, we can look at the modifications made to a particular set of proteins, produced by an organism or system, and begin to understand functional responses of organisms to stress. This type of analysis can be combined with manipulative expeiments on organisms, where environmental parameters are altered under controlled conditions and the proteomic response examined.

Proteomics can also be used to advance knowledge in the field of environmental biotechnology, including studies of bacterial physiology, metabolism and ecology.
