Shore-side Support

Shore-side Support

The number of science participants involved in oceanographic expeditions has increased significantly over the last 10 years. At the same time many government funded institutes have seen a reduction in budgets and spending due to the financial crisis and austerity measures. When today's research vessels leave port it is usually for a multi-disciplinary science cruise with several teams of scientists engaged in individual or complimentary studies. With these larger team sizes there is often limited accommodation for technical support staff and those supporting science on-board are usually stretched to the limit.

Research Vessel Services can offer shore side support to smaller technical teams at sea by assisting with troubleshooting, procurement and other time consuming activities that can reduce the workload of the onboard technician and let them focus on the most important aspect of the expedition - the science!
