Lighthouse Field Station
The Lighthouse Field Station is the focus for School's research on marine top-predator biology and integrates this work with teaching and outreach activities. It is one of three field stations within the University's School of Biological Sciences. The Field Station was established in 1990 with the dual aim of supporting research within the Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences and integrating this work into the School’s teaching and outreach activities.
Our research aims to understand how natural and man-made environmental changes influence the behaviour and population dynamics of marine mammals and seabirds. This work directly supports regional conservation and management programmes, and has developed best practice case studies that provide insights into marine resource management issues elsewhere in the world.
