University of Edinburgh - Oceans Research Group
The Oceans Research Group consists of researchers from a diverse range of backgrounds (oceanography, biology, geochemistry, geology), who share an interest in developing an understanding of the oceans and their role in modulating and driving global environmental variability and change.
Our current research foci are: Marine bio-geochemical processes and carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous cycles. Deriving high-resolution paleo-oceanography and paleoclimatology records. Understanding the relationship between environmental change and marine ecosystems and the genetic evolution of marine plankton. Informing marine policy, sustainable management of ocean resources and conservation.
The group investigates using a variety of approaches including oceanographic cruises, geochemical measurements, ocean experimentation, seafloor mapping and modelling.
The University of Edinburgh is a consortium member of the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS)
