Atmoic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)

Heriot Watt has a facility for atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), a common technique used in many analytical chemistry protocols, as well as applications requiring a high degree of precision and accuracy, including environmental sampling. Atomic absorption spectrometers may be used to analyze the concentration of over 70 different elements in a given sample solution.

The viscometer has mainly been used to measure the viscocity of oils, important contaminents of the marine environment. It also has the capacity to measure flow behaviours of other fluids.

We have a range of spectrophotometers, measuring transmittance and/or reflectance of UV/UVF and Infra-red in samples.
