Microbiology

My research is currently focused on the calcifying protists, foraminifera, and their interactions with bacteria, specifically endosymbiotic bacteria. I aim to determine whether different foraminifera species contain different bacterial symbionts and for what purpose. I am asking questions about how foraminiferal-bacterial relationships impact the use of foraminiferal proxies in palaeoclimate reconstruction and how they are involved in marine biogeochemical cycling.
